ANC at 100

The African National Congress (ANC) is South Africa's governing party and has been in power since the transition to democracy in April 1994. The organisation was initially founded as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) on 8 January 1912 in Bloemfontein, with the aim of fighting for the rights of black South Africans. The organization was renamed the ANC in 1923. While the organization’s early period was characterized by political inertia due to power struggles and lack of resources, increasing repression and the entrenchment of white minority rule galvanized the party. As a result of the establishment of apartheid, its aversion to dissent by Black people and brutal crackdown of political activists, the ANC togThrough MK, the ANC waged the armed struggle and obtained support from some African countries and the Soviet block for its activities. With the increasing internal dissent, international pressure and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the apartheid government was forced to enter into negotiations with the ANC. This saw the collapse of apartheid and the ushering in of democratic rule in 1994.
This feature focuses on the history of the ANC as one facet of the struggle for freedom and justice in South Africa. "Topics" outlines the chronological events in the organisations's history, written in chapters. “People” lists the ANC office bearers linked to their biographies other people connected to the ANC. The “Timeline” covers the period of the ANC from the early period to the recent past. An archive of ANC history related documents, articles, books and thesis have also been included under “Media Library”. Lastly, “Organizations” lists those organizations that are historically related or were at some point affiliated to the ANC.ether with the SACP formed a military wing, uMkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation/ MK) in 1961.

Nick Cannon hospitalized with "mild kidney failure"

NEW YORK — Nick Cannon is spending the first week of the new year in the hospital, with wife Mariah Carey by his side. Carey tweeted that Cannon is suffering from "mild kidney failure." His representative confirmed Cannon's hospitalization. He is in Aspen, Colo., where he and Carey were vacationing.
Carey posted a picture on her website of a miserable-looking Cannon in a hospital bed as she lay beside him. She asked for prayers and said Cannon's situation was "very painful." She later called it a "serious moment that's very tough on all of us."
The pair became the parents of twins - a boy and a girl - last year.
Cannon is 31. His representative had no further information Wednesday about his condition, but said he is still hospitalized.

PROPHESIES FOR 2012

                                                                 PASTOR ADEBOYE
Welcome to a new year! We hope you all made it hale and hearty. By God's grace all your heart desires would be met with automatic alacrity in the New Year. May 2012 yield onto us, all that's good, great and glorious Though it has begun in a new way: the cashless new economy in Lagos- one hopes it would not give a field day to the scammers (scam artists) and fraudsters, the so called removal of oil subsidy- meaning a bit more hardship, declaration of state of emergency in some states up north- the insecurity in the country is at an alarming rate. All hope is definitely not lost, if messages or better still prophecies coming from some great men of God are to be believed. We came across one of such, credited to the very well respected man of God-Pastor E. A. Adeboye- though unconfirmed and we thought to bring it to every one's attention, maybe one way or the other it shall bring hope to those who believe. We say that because we know for a fact that some would read the words with scorn, while some would believe. The fact is that many monumental things would occur during the course of the year, however it would turn out for you and yours would be determined by you. So believe or not, it’s your choice.

Fuel subsidy removal stirs anger, protests

Protests and anger on Monday greeted Sunday’s announcement of the removal of subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government.
In Abuja, the Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna and other parts of the country, Nigerians of diverse classes and economic status reacted angrily to the removal even as the price of petrol fluctuated between the N141 maximum price prescribed by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency and N200.
Starting from the morning on Monday, protesters gathered at the Eagle Square in the Federal Capital City to sign a register to reject the removal of subsidy and the consequent hardship. The protesters were mobilised by a group known as Nigeria Unite Against Subsidy Removal, led by a former member of the House of representatives, Dino Melaye.
Soldiers from the Presidential Villa under the command of the Commander of Brigade of Guards, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Atewe, however, dispersed the protesters and arrested their leaders, including Melaye.
Others arrested with Melaye were a journalist with Daily Trust, Abdulwasiu Hassan; Eze Nwagwu, Mbasekei Obono, Nasiru Magaji and Kalid Ismail.
In Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, students, under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students and National Association of Kwara State Students trooped out to protest the subsidy removal. Coordinated by the duo of Basambo Kabir and Akorede Kabir, the students said the fuel subsidy removal was an insensitive action by President Goodluck Jonathan and asked the Federal Government to reverse the removal

Zahara matches the best in the music world

The South African Music Awards under the leadership of Randall Abraham must be regretting the day they announced that kwaito would be combined with hip-hop and rap to form a new category unwisely called Street Music.
The industry, particularly the kwaito crowd, went ballistic, forcing the idea to be scrapped.
The music industry continued to suffer immensely as CD sales did not do well at all, forcing many musicians to depend on and make a living through performances only.
Many factors, especially the recession and piracy affected CD sales badly.
Sadly, a shining star of the industry for many years, Mike Maswanganye, committed suicide a few weeks ago . He was said to be in deep financial trouble . May Maswanganye's soul rest in peace.
Not everything was bad about the music industry in 2011 though.
The Metro FM Awards held in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, at the end of November, were successful. Two talented musicians dominated the awards - rapper AK and Zahara with their debut albums.

As you read this, gbon gbon gbon crooner, Jaywon was beaten up by his label mate, though senior, Edris Abdulkareem yesterday at satellite town carnival. Though no one could actually tell what brought about the fight, but a lot of people who knows both parties say Edris has been beefing Jaywon because of his fast success. He alongside his thugs beat up the young singer (jaywon), and since he couldn’t over power them, he was seriously injured. I hear he is presently hospitalized.
